Edo state is the heartbeat of Nigeria as the national slogan suggests. Therefore, it is always expected of the Edo people, which makes up the  Benins,  the  Esans and the Etsakos to carry out their activities in a manner that suggests discipline, self-control  and orderliness. In other words, Edo state is made up of three senatorial districts namely: Edo South, Edo North and Edo Central.

Now, as the Edo people go to polls tomorrow, 21st of September 2024, it is expected of them to conduct a peaceful and orderly election amongst themselves, even though pockets of political harassments and engagements have been reported before now.  

Edo state is made up of 18 local government areas.  Edo South with  7 LGA(s),  Edo North with 6 LGA (s),  and Edo Central with 5 LGA(s). Our focus here is on Edo Central which happens to be the focal point of the gubernatorial election slated for tomorrow,  21st of September 2024 in the state.

Candidates Running In September  21st Gubernatorial Election In Edo State 

Asuerinme Ogie Ighodalo is the PDP's candidate in Edo state and he's from  Edo Central ( Ewohinmi), Monday Okpebolo is the APC's candidate in the state, he is also from Edo Central ( Irrua) and Olumide Akpata( Former NBA national president), is the Labour party's candidate in the state.  He is from Edo South, which technically rules him out of the contest because Edo South is the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki. And going by the rules, it is the turn of Edo Central to produce the next governor of the state after the tenure of Gov. Godwin Obaseki.

Edo Central has five local government areas and these are Iguenben,  Esan Central ( Hdqtr is Irrua), Esan West( Hdqtr is Ekpoma), Esan North East (Hdqtr is Uromi), Esan South East ( Hdqtr is Ubiaja).

Moving forward,  the over view impression outside Edo state as at the time of filing in this report is that Edo state is a no go state for now. But speaking to some reliable sources especially in Edo Central on the situation report in Edo state today, 20th of September 2024, seems on the positive side.

Efosa Tv Channel News was able to engage the amiable Onojie of Ebelle Kingdom, HRH David Osifo Imadojiemu, via a telephone interview,  on the situation report in the state, he kindly and authoritatively assures everyone outside Edo  state that the state is so peaceful now and that they are all looking forward to a more peaceful and credible election tomorrow,  21st of September 2024. In his words, he said anyone will wish and look forward to a more credible election in the state tomorrow and as a king from Esan Central, Ebelle Kingdom precisely, i wish all the candidates best of luck and peaceful conduct from all of them, even the electorates. He further said , i'm happy two of the candidates are from Edo Central and I give both of them my royal blessings, he concluded. 

Mr Lucky Erowonsele, a business man in Ebelle Kingdom under Iguenben local government area, also wrote off the wrong impression that Edo state is a no go  state for now because of tomorrow 's election. In his words he  told Efosa Tv Channel News via telephone interview that , Edo state is known for peace, therefore, tomorrow 's election will be more peaceful than the world would expect. Yes, there were pockets of political harassments and brouahaha before now but all that have been taken care of and all involved are back to their homes peacefully. So, by tomorrow we are all looking forward to a fair and credible election in Edo state because Edo state is a peaceful state and every edolite intends to keep it that way. He was also quick to drum a loud support for Asue Ighodalo, the PDP's candidate in the state. He assures everyone,  Asue Ighodalo will have a landslide victory in the entire election tomorrow,  especially in the whole 5 LGA(s) of Edo  Central, he concluded. 

Now, Edo state is the heartbeat of Nigeria, so let them do what they are known for. Choosing rightly. May God help them to choose the right man to pilot the state to the higher level. When the heartbeat is functional, the entire body will be made perfect. Let the Edo people liberate themselves from the sufferings in the country and build on what is on ground already. Only the truth can set us free. Choose wisely and throw sentiments into thin air. The hardship in the country is no joke, so let Edo people set the pace from now by choosing the right party and the right candidate to do the job. 

Big question here is: Must Nigerians continue to pamper and tolerate a bad political party? It is time to wake up.

Let Nigerians follow the footsteps of the Americans. The Republican party is a bad market to them right now, especially with Donald Trump as their candidate and they are not pretending about it. Let Nigerians do same starting with the polls in Edo state tomorrow. Let Nigerians start voting out a bad government whether at the federal, state or local government levels. And if a state like Edo state has good government in place already, then let them build on it with their votes tomorrow. A word is enough for the wise.
