ACCOUNTANTS SHOU,D PARTICIPATE MORE IN NIGERIAN POLITICS....ATIBIOKE ADEOYE OLAOLUWA, CHAIRMAN, ICAN AKUREAND DISTRICT SOCIETY, ONDO STATE.
The Institute Of Chartered Accountants ( ICAN), Akure and District Society held her 29th investiture ceremony today at the ICAN House, Alagbaka, in Akure ,the capital city of Ondo State.
Top accounting officers were in their numbers as they turned out for the guest speaker's lecture, tittled: Emerging or Emergent Society by Pastor Emmanuel Igbasan, Hon. Commissioner for Economic Plannig and Budget, Ondo state.
The ICAN initiative was birthed in 1894 but professional accountancy started in 1965 with 65 foreign countries as members, the guest speaker, Pastor Emmanuel Igbasan said. And in the course of his lecture, Hon. Igbasan asked a cogent question which was: Do accountants still hold value in Nigeria? He went on to expanciate his question by a follow up answer.
Going forward, in the course of the investiture ceremony, Efosa Tv Channel interviewed the newly inaugurated 29th chairman of ICAN Akure and District Society, Ondo state, Atibioke Adeoye Olaoluwa, who said accountants should participate more in the Nigerian politics so as to make impact in corrective measures in the society.
He also said their mission is to be a leading global professional body to produce world class chartered accountants in order to regulate and continually enhance ethical standards and technical competence in the public interest.
There was also a cultural entertainment to spice the day by the Ona Ara Cultural Troupe and the happily newly inaugurated chairman of ICAN Akure and District Society danced with the cultural troupe during their performance.
To cap it up, dignitaries like the acting governor 's representative, Chief Oye Akinsulire( Member, ICAN Governing Council), Dr Innocent Okwuosa( ICAN 59th President), Mallam Tijani Musa Isa ( ICAN, Immediate past president), Hon.Idowu Otetubi ( Vice Chairman, ICAN Akure and District Society), Wale Akinterinwa( Hon. Commissioner for Finance, Ondo State) and a host of others were present at the investiture ceremony today in Akure, Ondo State.
The big question now is: Is this a wake up call for accountants in Nigeria to participate more in nigerian politics and if they do, how can they change the gloomy economic narrative in the country?
