NFF DID NOT BOOK THE TEAM'S TICKETS FROM COSTA RICA, FIFA DID...NFF Secretary General, Dr Mohammed Sanusi.
It is no longer news that the falconets who participated at the FIFA WOMEN UNDER 20 WORLD CUP IN TURKEY crashed out at the quarter finals with Netherlands beating Nigeria to it with 2-0.
But what is news is that, the global football governing body FIFA, made Nigeria's falconets to end up stranded at the Istanbul Airport in Turkey. Dr Mohammed Sanusi, the secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation has this to say:
NFF did not book the team's tickets, FIFA did. And even when we pleaded for compassionate transit visas to enable us take the players to town in Germany just to book hotel accommodation for them, they still refused us because they said Nigeria is already removed from the list of countries with access to visa on arrival in Turkey. Rather, they took the players to secure space for them at the departure in Istanbul airport were the players had access to meal tickets every five hours.
Now, question is: What was FIFA thinking with that kind of negligence meted on the future team of Falcons in Nigeria? Obviously, these falconets will grow into falcons someday and soar higher.
The falconets were said to have left their hotel in Turkey on Monday by 6:30am local time in Nigeria and were delayed 3hrs in Bogota and 1hr in Panama before arriving Istanbul Airport late enough, only to meet the connecting flight to Abuja has already left.
Now, question is: Was there no coordination between the FIFA organizers and the flights booked? And why were the falconets and their officials delayed in Bogpta and Panama which led to them missing their flights at the Istanbul Airport in Turkey?
Dr Mohammed also spoke on the falconets wears. He said they were given 3 sets of green jerseys and two sets of white jerseys each with several House wears types and training jerseys. The only time the players had to wash by hands was when the hotel in Istanbul launderette returned their jerseys Fifa and Nff logos peeled off by washing machine.
How should NFF handle such occurrence in the near future because Nigeria's sports athletes should be accorded their rights and respects wherever and when ever.
